Happy Hogmanay
A Guid New Year Frae Bloomsbury House
When winter winds sweep o’er the brae,
And Sheringham gleams in dawning day,
We send our thanks, sae warm and true,
To those who’ve made this hoose their due.
O guests who shared this bield o’ cheer,
And marked it bright wi’ joys sincere,
Your kindly laughs, your voices rare,
Have filled these walls wi’ love and mair.
The cliffs sae grand, the silver tide,
The paths where freedom bides beside,
Hae been your haven, calm and braw,
For friends, wee bairns, and dogs an’ a’.
Now as the year’s first licht appears,
We bless ye all, and shed nae tears.
For choosing Bloomsbury as your rest,
Ye’ve made our hearts aye feel the best.
To weave new dreams, here’s what to do:
Take heed, and let us guide ye through.
Wi’ but a keek, come book your stay—
The year ahead could be your day!
O dinna wait, come back, be free,
Where sea meets sky wi’ harmony.
In 2025, we’ll see ye then,
And mak’ your hearts full glad again.
May this New Year bring joy tae thee,
In Sheringham’s peace by the endless sea.
My favourite Scottish poet, Robert Burns, might has written something along these lines about our holiday home had he stayed in it.
I grew up in the seaside town of Musselburgh, just outside Edinburgh, and some of my fondest memories are of living by the water. There’s something magical about the inspiration and relaxed pace of life that comes with being by the sea—it shaped so much of who I am.
Years ago, I moved to Norfolk and fell in love, not just with James but also with Sheringham. It reminded me so much of home, with its charm and coastal beauty, and I knew it was where I wanted to put down roots.
Starting Bloomsbury House wasn’t just about running a business—it was about sharing what I love about Sheringham. I wanted to create a place that would inspire people, a space where families and friends could come together and make memories of their own. For me, it’s always been about celebrating the joy and connection that life by the sea brings.
Back home, Hogmanay is celebrated with a bang, and I can’t think of a better place to ring in the New Year than at Bloomsbury House. On New Year’s Day, why not take the train to Cromer? Be there for 5 pm and experience the spectacular firework display from the pier. Just don’t forget your hat, gloves, and a hip flask to keep warm—it’s a tradition worth sharing!
