Stepping Back In Time

Goodness, what a jolly time they had! If you’re looking for a proper ripping adventure, then Sheringham during its 1940s Weekend is just the thing. It’s as if the town has slipped into an old storybook, bustling with cheerful folk, rattling trains, and music that makes you want to twirl about. And where did they stay for this marvellous escapade? Why, in the most delightful place Bloomsbury House.

Bloomsbury House is just the ticket. It’s not too big and not too small, but absolutely perfect for a gang of adventurous sorts. With its snug rooms and charming furnishings, it felt as though they’d been transported to another time. Heavens, there is even a wind up gramophone, to get the party started with a swing.

Best of all, Bloomsbury House is ever so close to the heart of Sheringham. They could hear the chuffing of the steam trains and the faint strains of a jolly tune drifting through the air. Spiffing, I say!

Stepping out of Bloomsbury House, they were quite bowled over by the sights and sounds of Sheringham. Everyone was dressed up in their best 1940s costumes – smart soldiers, plucky nurses, and jolly ladies in hats and gloves. Even the children joined in, dashing about with wooden toy planes and giggling merrily.

The streets were alive with chatter and music. They popped into the market to buy some scrumptious buns and lemonade, and they even saw a fellow selling old-fashioned sweets. They couldn’t resist a bag of sherbet lemons – who could?

The most thrilling bit was the North Norfolk Railway. The big, black steam engines puffed and hissed, and they climbed aboard for a ride. It was tremendous fun, chugging along the countryside as if they were off on a wartime mission. They decided that they were on their way to deliver secret documents – how exciting!

By midday, they were all quite famished. Luckily, Sheringham has lots of splendid little cafes where you can tuck into hearty pies, creamy scones, and tea served in proper china cups. Later, they wandered through the stalls, finding treasures like vintage brooches and jolly books from long ago.

As the evening approached, the whole town seemed to glow. There were dances in the streets, and people laughing and clapping along to lively tunes. They tried to dance a bit themselves, though it was said they were rather hopeless at it. Still, it was smashing fun!

After all the excitement, it was lovely to return to Bloomsbury House. They lit the lamps, made a big pot of tea, and sat around in the sitting room, chatting about their adventures. Someone suggested a game of charades, and it wasn’t long before they were all in fits of laughter.

As they snuggled down that night, the distant sound of the train whistle and the laughter of the town still lingered in the air. What a marvellous weekend it had been!

If you’re thinking of an adventure, do make your way to Sheringham for its 1940s Weekend – and stay at Bloomsbury House. It’s the perfect base for all sorts of thrilling escapades, and you’ll feel as though you’re part of the story. So pack your bag, bring along a tin of biscuits (just in case), and get ready for a smashing good time. Hooray for Sheringham!

Of course staying at Bloomsbury House at anytime is absolutely spiffing.
