The Day The Circus

I look forward to Easter every year, no, not because of all the chocolate, but because Russell's Circus arrives in Beeston Regis, just a 15 minute walk from Sheringham.

I have early cherished memories of my father taking me to the circus when we lived in Edinburgh. The feeling of excitement and anticipation has never left me.

This year I watched eagerly as the big tent went up right in front of my eyes, James and I have moved to Beeston Regis to live, opposite the field where the extravaganza was unfolding.

The show was amazing, underneath the vast expanse of the big top, the magic of Russell's Circus presented like a storybook coming to life. The ringmaster, Mr. Russell, with his captivating presence and booming voice, introduces all the acts. Year on year the production seems to get more and more enchanting.

Acrobats danced across the ring with grace and precision, their movements as fluid as the ebb and flow of the nearby sea. Each somersault and twist captured the essence of wonder, leaving us breathless at times.

Clowns, with their whimsical antics and colourful costumes, brought laughter and squeals of delight. Children were wide eyed enjoying their slapstick humour with their gentle painted on smiles, there was certainly an atmosphere of joy to behold.

At the interval freshly cooked popcorn, candy floss and light refreshments can be purchased, delightfully all served by the cast of the circus.

The second half was just as fabulous as the first.

As the final act drew to a close, and the curtain fell on another chapter of Russell's Circus, we are left with a kaleidoscope of memories that sparkle like stars in the night sky.

Though the circus may have packed its tents and moved on, the magic it left behind lingered in the hearts of all who had the privilege of witnessing its splendour. A testament to all the hard work put in by the cast giving us a spectacular spectacle, one that brings joys and wonders for families to remember.

In the wonderful words of Ernest Hemingway “The circus is the only ageless delight that you can buy for money. Everything else is supposed to be bad for you. But the circus is good for you”....
